Before we dive deeper into what we need to surrender, let’s start with a fundamental question:
What does it mean to surrender to God?
To surrender means to give up control, to let go of our will, desires, and self-reliance, and to submit to God’s plan for our lives. Jesus exemplified this ultimate surrender when He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, saying:
This prayer shows Jesus’ willingness to surrender His own desires and submit to God's will, even in the face of great suffering. Surrendering all means aligning our heart with God’s heart, regardless of our circumstances or our own preferences.
Prayer and fasting are two of the most powerful spiritual disciplines that can facilitate surrender. Through prayer, we communicate with God, confessing our needs, asking for His guidance, and ultimately yielding to His will. Fasting, on the other hand, is a physical demonstration of our dependence on God, a way to quiet the flesh and focus solely on the Spirit.
It is suggested that after eating your meal, you resist the temptation to overeat. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids and then resume your fast. Begin fasting at 12 a.m. and continue until 6 p.m., resuming again at the next 12 a.m. For those working full-time, there is the option to break the fast at 12 p.m. or 3 p.m. if needed.

Stay hydrated with water and juices; if the juice is very sweet or acidic, dilute it with water. Break your fast with nourishing meals that include fruits, vegetables, soups, salads, fish, and chicken.
Drinking soda, coffee, and alcohol. If possible, refrain from eating pork, and steer away from watching horror movies or those with sexual content. After breaking your fast each day, try to avoid junk food such as burgers, fries, and other fast foods.
Make it a daily practice to spend time in praise and worship, devotion, and prayer, using the prayer guide provided.
Always keep a pen and a notebook, journal, or pad nearby to record what God speaks to your heart. P.L.S. – Pray for our children and young people, pray for our nation, pray for our leaders, and pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
